With the holidays past and warmer weather on the way, we've rounded the corner in our year. First Graders are reading independently more and more, beginning to solve real-life based math problems and getting involved in their communities.

Academics for the Month
Coming Up in February Reading - First Graders are bringing home leveled books every week! They should be able to read these books to you independently
Spelling - Continuing to work on Spelling Homework. Encourage students to practice spelling words using the system: 1. Look 2. Say 3. Cover 4. Write 5. Check
Phonics - We will continue introducing a new sound and a blend or digraph each week. Look for them in the spelling list!
Math - Your students make math so much fun! Here are some websites that you can use to help your child practice math at home! Math Playground
Writing - We are wrapping up our, "All About" books writing! Be on the lookout for an invitation to our publishing party soon!
Social Studies - We are studying our community through maps and time.
